Position Overview:

Provides basic engineering services in the energy field to utilities, industrial customers, commercial customers, institutions, federal and state agencies, and other customers. The Motors and Drives Co-op position is entry level and requires proficient skills in areas that use engineering judgement. Work products or processes will always have oversight from engineer or field technologist.

 

Essential Functions:

Engineering Support

  • Provide hands on assistance in laboratory setting utilizing various hand tools and power tools
  • Support product testing and safely operate laboratory dynamometers
  • Schedule laboratory testing based on incoming shipments and coordinate outgoing shipments including proper packaging

The Information Systems (IS) Specialist II position is responsible for managing and maintaining our Microsoft 365 environment, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. Position Overview:

Advanced Energy provides independent engineering services for utility scale renewable energy resources connected to the distribution and transmission grids. This position will lead projects to provide consulting services and commissioning for renewable energy integration. 

 

The ideal candidate will have project management experience and some knowledge about renewables, the electric power industry, or transmission and distribution grids. This position will work in close collaboration with external stakeholders including utility clients, renewables developers, and subcontractors while also coordinating activities with internal engineering and other staff to deliver services.

 

Essential Functions:

Project Management

  • Develop and refine scope of work and take into account the client’s needs, budget and other resources
  • Develop and implement project plans, including strategies, milestones and tasks
  • Design and facilitate project meetings and record minutes and action plans
  • Coordinate project logistics, including meetings, conference calls, presentations, workshops, client visits, travel, and events associated with assigned projects
  • Work with internal team and customer to define and update AE’s role on projects

About the job:

• Independently leads comprehensive (e.g. supply side and demand side), on-site compressed air system assessments at customer facilities
• Develops rapport and trust with customers to understand their needs, production requirements, and planned changes within their compressed air system
• Gathers required system data and information, including pressure, power, flow, and air quality, to properly baseline system performance
• Processes, analyzes data and conducts engineering calculations to accurately determine baseline system performance

• Quantify savings and impact of associated opportunities identified during the assessment.
• Works with data logging equipment throughout the assessment process.
• Leverages assessment tools, instrumentation, and data to provide deliverables. This includes insertion of flow meters, pressure transmitters, current transmitters, power meters, and pressure dew point transmitters.
• Assembles assessment report based on findings and presents assessment findings to team and end clients.
• Works with project team to develop schematic design deliverables to execute on opportunities identified in assessment. This includes creating single line drawings, equipment schedules, piping diagrams, P&ID diagrams, synthesize solutions, and putting together preliminary solutions for our clients.

Overview:

The Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) Group in the Manufacturing Science Division (MSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral research associate position in energy efficiency and decarbonization for the industry sector. This position augments ORNL's industrial energy efficiency and decarbonization team, which operates in support of DOE's Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge programs. The mission of the MEERA group is to research, analyze, and disseminate knowledge on energy, carbon, water, and material efficiency in the manufacturing sector and to develop, deploy, and promote impactful practices, tools, and technologies. The MEERA group is a part of ORNL’s Manufacturing Science Division in the Energy Science and Technology Directorate.

 

Through its energy efficiency & decarbonization technical assistance programs, the MEERA group develops a diverse portfolio of industrial energy efficiency tools and resources delivered to the manufacturing sector through various technical assistance and training events worldwide.   • The postdoctoral associate will collaborate on research and analysis of technologies and practices for increasing the energy efficiency of the industrial and buildings sectors.
  • The assignment will involve leading projects and supporting ORNL program managers and principal investigators on IEDO programs and projects in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • The IEDO project work includes supporting activities under the DOE’s Better Buildings, Better Plants program.

In this role, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will:

  • Support the ORNL team in establishing a scalable industrial workforce consortium to address the current shortage of skilled labor in the industrial sector while advancing the US Department of Energy's vision for achieving zero-carbon industries.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to consortium partners to develop and pilot solutions that can be scaled for national reach and/or broad sectoral coverage.
  • Assist with ongoing industrial workforce development activities (e.g., In-Plant Trainings, Virtual In-Plant Trainings, Bootcamps, Webinar Series, etc.) for DOE Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge programs.

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to the efforts of the MEERA Group’s Industrial Workforce Development Team.

  • Support the steering committee to establish and operate the SEED Workforce Consortium:
    • Develop the goals, strategies, performance evaluation methodology, and pedagogical performance evaluation systems for the consortium.
    • Develop and release the RFPs for consortium partners selections.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to consortium partners via regular meetings.
  • Assist ORNL’s Better Plants team in organizing virtual in-plant trainings (VINPLTs), in-person in-plant trainings (INPLTs), Energy Bootcamps, and Carbon Bootcamps:
    • Manage virtual training sessions online.

This role entails engaging in research within the domains of renewable energy and the implementation of clean energy technologies on-site, along with their associated supportive technologies (such as solar photovoltaics, solar thermal systems, wind power, renewable fuels, geothermal solutions, battery storage, thermal storage, and industrial heat pumps). The role also involves research and analysis of technologies and practices for increasing the energy efficiency of the industrial sectors. The primary objective is the direct reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the industrial sector.

 

The MEERA Group actively contributes to the efforts of the Department of Energy’s Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office (IEDO) in providing technical assistance. The focus of this assistance revolves around identifying and facilitating the deployment of on-site clean energy solutions. These solutions aim to generate energy that is both flexible and dependable, thereby contributing to the reduction of GHG emissions. Furthermore, these efforts align with the overarching goal of promoting corporate sustainability within the industrial sector.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to the efforts of the MEERA Group’s Onsite Technical Analysis (OTA) Team.
  • Encompass the provision of expertise, research, and analysis concerning the onsite energy program of the DOE IEDO, along with the array of technologies that the program will endorse.
  • Play a role in advancing the OTA team’s core mission, which involves conducting comprehensive market analyses to pinpoint opportunities pertaining to onsite energy technologies within the industrial sector.
  • Informing strategic planning, devising protocols and tools for onsite energy technology assessments, creating, and upkeeping tools and resources for the onsite energy program, and providing support for technical assistance, engagements, and related activities.

Advanced Energy provides independent engineering services for utility scale renewable energy resources connected to the distribution and transmission grids. This position will lead projects to provide consulting services and commissioning for renewable energy integration.

Required Qualifications

Overview:

The Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) Group in the Manufacturing Science Division (MSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral research associate position in energy efficiency and decarbonization for the industry sector. This position augments ORNL's industrial energy efficiency and decarbonization team, which operates in support of DOE's Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge programs. The mission of the MEERA group is to research, analyze, and disseminate knowledge on energy, carbon, water, and material efficiency in the manufacturing sector and to develop, deploy, and promote impactful practices, tools, and technologies. The MEERA group is a part of ORNL’s Manufacturing Science Division in the Energy Science and Technology Directorate.

 

Through its energy efficiency & decarbonization technical assistance programs, the MEERA group develops a diverse portfolio of industrial energy efficiency tools and resources delivered to the manufacturing sector through various technical assistance and training events worldwide. The MEERA group actively supports industry partners in improving manufacturing plant energy efficiency and decarbonization through roles in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge programs.  

 

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will assist principal investigators and lead energy efficiency technology deployment projects as part of an expanding program.
  • The candidate’s work will be focused on technical assistance and research related to improved energy management in existing industrial facilities during their operational phase. The Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) Group at ORNL is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to engage in research and technical support for industrial decarbonization workforce development. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in mechanical engineering, industrial energy systems, renewable energy, decarbonization, or other related fields. They should also possess experience in industrial workforce development and technical training.

 

In this role, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will:

  • Support the ORNL team in establishing a scalable industrial workforce consortium to address the current shortage of skilled labor in the industrial sector while advancing the US Department of Energy's vision for achieving zero-carbon industries.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to consortium partners to develop and pilot solutions that can be scaled for national reach and/or broad sectoral coverage.
  • Assist with ongoing industrial workforce development activities (e.g., In-Plant Trainings, Virtual In-Plant Trainings, Bootcamps, Webinar Series, etc.) for DOE Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge programs.
  • Conduct research and analysis on the status of the industrial workforce development market to identify gaps, barriers, and challenges, and propose long-term and scalable solutions.

 

The MEERA Group actively contributes to the efforts of the Department of Energy’s Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office (IEDO) by providing technical assistance and workforce development. This role supports the IEDO’s vision to cultivate a large, diverse, and skilled clean energy workforce that will contribute to the growth of a strong, clean industrial sector.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to the efforts of the MEERA Group’s Industrial Workforce Development Team.

  • Support the steering committee to establish and operate the SEED Workforce Consortium:
    • Develop the goals, strategies, performance evaluation methodology, and pedagogical performance evaluation systems for the consortium.
    • Develop and release the RFPs for consortium partners selections.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to consortium partners via regular meetings.
  • Assist ORNL’s Better Plants team in organizing virtual in-plant trainings (VINPLTs), in-person in-plant trainings (INPLTs), Energy Bootcamps, and Carbon Bootcamps:
    • Manage virtual training sessions online.
    • Work with DOE system experts in developing training documents, quizzes, etc.
    • Assist in developing training agendas, interacting with energy experts, and manufacturing companies to coordinate training activities.
    • Maintain in-person in-plant training and bootcamp databases.
    • Develop monthly program impact reports to share with DOE program manager.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and key training entities in the US on decarbonization workforce development proposals and activities.
  • Conduct research and analysis on the status of industrial workforce and impact of the workforce development programs: identify gaps and barriers for a competent and diverse industrial workforce; propose and implement long-term and scalable solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A PhD in energy engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field completed within the last 5 years.

  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills acquired through PhD research, which can be applied to conduct research analyses in various fields.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrated through weekly presentations to sponsors and others, and in preparing reports, proposals, and journal articles.
  • Robust interpersonal skills for effective team building and leadership, coupled with a strong commitment to scientific integrity.
  • Profound understanding of energy efficiency, renewable and clean energy technologies, and decarbonization.
  • Familiarity with industrial processes, building science, heating and cooling technologies, and mechanical systems and controls.
  • Eagerness to acquire new skills and explore new areas.
  • Proficiency in using Excel for engineering data analysis.
  • Familiarity with numerical calculation and statistical data analysis techniques.
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing workforce development.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogical evaluation system design.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM®) or Renewable Energy Professional (REP™) certifications, or other certifications in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy.
  • Willingness to travel. You will be involved in meetings with DOE sponsors in Washington, DC, and will attend key conferences and workshops.

The role entails contributing to MEERA group’s mission of disseminating knowledge on energy, carbon, water, and material efficiency in the manufacturing sector and develop, deploy, and promote impactful practices, tools, and technologies. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in mechanical engineering, industrial energy systems, renewable energy, decarbonization, or other related fields. The candidate will play a crucial role in the planning, execution, and optimization of our technical assistance program for energy intensive industries (iron & steel, food, pulp & paper, chemicals, nonferrous metals, and nonmetallic minerals). The primary objective of the energy intensive industries (EIIs) program is to engage with manufacturers from energy-intensive industrial sectors to better understand their specific needs and issues in implementing energy efficiency and decarbonization activities. The candidate will work closely with program allies, subject matter experts and technical trade associations to ensure successful delivery of technical assistance to energy intensive manufacturing participants.

 

The MEERA Group actively contributes to the efforts of the Department of Energy’s Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office (IEDO) by providing technical assistance. Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to the efforts on research and analysis of technologies and practices for increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprint of the energy intensive sector.

  • Program Design: Support in creating technical assistance activities tailored to the needs of energy intensive industries or target sectors considering factors such as energy and decarbonization assessments, workforce development and technology demonstrations.
  • Resource Development: Assist in developing relevant technical resources to address the unique needs of EIIs. Resources could include guidance documents, white papers, presentation materials and energy and decarbonization tools.
  • Interface with program participants and contribute to technical support activities such as: visiting manufacturing sites, analyzing technologies, assisting EIIs to improve energy management practices, perform energy data benchmarking and analysis studies.   
  • Project Management: Coordinate with program partners, allies and subject matter experts and assist in the execution of technical assistance activities such as assessments, and trainings.
  • Policy Analysis: Evaluate and identify funding opportunities related to energy efficiency and decarbonization projects and provide recommendations to EII program participants.

  • Publication: Prepare research papers, reports, and presentations to disseminate findings in journals, conferences and to stakeholders.

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM®) or Renewable Energy Professional (REP™) certifications are desired.
  • Proven track record in renewable energy modeling and utilization of analysis tools for distributed energy resources (REopt, DER-CAM, DER-VET, Homer, System Advisor Model (SAM), TRNSYS, etc.) is highly advantageous.

Quest Energy Group (Quest) is seeking an entry level engineer to help the Company provide our energy consulting services to our clients. The candidate should have basic knowledge in building energy efficiency and commercial HVAC system investigation, design, and/or operation. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working directly with and presenting to clients, writing technical reports, and utilizing building simulation energy modeling software. Required Qualifications:

Scope of Work and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct junior staff and other team members that would assist in analysis and/or report tasks
  • Collaborate with design teams and internal consultants to identify effective energy efficiency measures for the built environment.
  • Effectively communicate proposed solutions to clients using high quality visual and verbal communication.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous energy consulting projects from inception to close.
  • Manage time and budget of projects to complete tasks before deadlines
  • Perform energy audits in existing buildings. Collect notes, set up data collection instrumentation, inspect building and HVAC systems, analyze findings and create recommendations.

  • Provide advanced technical direction to other staff.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers on various energy efficiency projects, including energy auditing, Measurement & Verification, and commissioning/retro-commissioning.

Requirements

  • Must be located in New Jersey
